Do You Need to Replace or Just Clean Your Spa Filter?
Hot tubs and home spas are great, and many people have added them to their decks, gazebos, or even inside their homes so that they can relax and soak away the cares of life. It could provide a lot of fun for the whole family. That is until it's time to change the filter. Filters aren't cheap and they require frequent changing if you use the tub a lot. Fortunately for you, there's a better way for you to go about things. Spa filters can be cleaned so that they can be used for longer periods of time. You'll be keeping extra waste out of the landfill, but it will also help save you a lot of money.
The first thing you should do is cut power to the unit. Water and electricity don't mix, something you should undoubtedly know already. You should retrieve the filter from under the skimmer. This is one of the easiest things about the whole process. If you can't remove the filter easily, you may have to consult the instruction manual.
After you have removed the filter, you should find a soft scrub brush and use it to get rid of larger pieces of debris. It can be very surprising how much debris that you find. A lot of the debris will be hair, so you'll need to work hard to remove it all. In addition, concentrate on the seams of the filter. Make sure that you don't scrub too hard or you'll risk causing damage to the filter.
If you have a pressure washer, you can use the lowest setting to wash the filter. A garden hose with a pressure nozzle attached to it is also an option. Keep spraying until the water runs clear to ensure that you're removed all the built up dirt and debris. While you're washing the filter, you can use a broom stick placed through the center of the filter to keep it in place.
Then, you'll need to soak your filter in hot water and chlorine bleach to ensure that's it's thoroughly clean. Soaking the filter in hot water and bleach will not only sanitize it, but also restore the white color.
It's important that you rinse all of the bleach out of the filter after you're done. This is especially important if you use alternative spa treatments. After all, you don't want a weird chemical reaction taking place in your tub. At this point, then, the filter should be almost as clean and fresh as it was when it was new. It's best that you let the filter air dry before you put it back in the spa. Doc No.wslsdhgt-sdgewa
