I know nothing about light bulbs, I thought the higher the watt was the bright it is?

For a given type of bulb (e.g. halogen), yes, the more watts the brighter (in general) - but you can't directly compare power (watts) with bulbs of different types.
An LED bulb is about five times as efficient as a halogen bulb (which is what you have). So the output from the 3 watt LED would be comparable to a 15 watt halogen GU10. Not really in the same class. I think you'd be disappointed.
