A Super Easy Check List For Cloning A WordPress Blog
I'm just going to throw this idea out there for you. I honestly believe that knowing how to clone a wordpress blog is one of the most essential and important skills that you can have as an Internet Marketer. I'm not kidding when I say that as well. You see, someone like myself who has a large portfolio of websites, we don't have the time to simply create new sites from the ground up. That's not an option, it is just downright time consuming and not constructive use of time. Anything that can even save you so much as a few mere minutes can, if anything, be your edge when it comes to competing in this market, and by this, I mean getting blogs and websites up and running as fast as humanly possible.
Ok, when you create your perfectly configured WordPress blog, there are a few key considerations that you will need to make as to the plugin side of things. Of massive importance here is to absolutely make sure that you are not bulking up your installation too heavily, otherwise that will only slow down its performance. A few key considerations here may be some SEO functionality, such as the ability to add custom meta tags to your content, sitemap creation, a contact form, and that is just to start with. There is no limit as to how creative you can be at this point, just remember not to over-inflate. As a general rule of thumb, I prefer to not use more than 5 - 7 plugins on any one blog at any one time.
As for themes, I spend way too much time deciding on how I want to dress up my blogs. With that in mind, when it comes to my perfect clone, I upload all of my available themes, so that I can simply get a new installation up and running without having to search and install a theme that I may or may not be happy with. I can simply preview how the blog looks using a specific theme, and press the activate button when I am happy with what I see. This method in itself has saved me a huge amount of time in the past, and it will save you a massive amount of time too.
Now, the important part - the part when you get all technical. When it comes to how to clone a wordpress blog, there are many ways that you can do this. You can do it the hard way doing it manually, or you can do it the easy way using scripts and plugins. On that note, I absolutely do not recommend using a WordPress plugin to clone a WordPress installation, as this relies on the WordPress platform to get the job done. This is buggy, and I have never had success cloning a real blog that is of an average blog size. I know that many will disagree with me, but I am just stating it how I have seen it on all of the major hosts. Standalone scripts work best, and always will. At the end of the day however, the sooner that you learn how this is done, the sooner you can be on your way to making better use of your time.

Frequently Asked Questions...
Sky Broadband super-lag issue?
For over a year now, between about 6pm and 7pm playing games online is impossible and browsing slows to a crawl on Sky Broadband. Some days it's not THAT bad but others (like tonight) it's atrocious. I look at the network tab on my computer and I can see the "speed" info hovering around 9MBps to 18MBps (it's meant to be at 56MBps).
At first I thought this was throttling, which is weird because I'm on a package that has no throttling. Then I noticed it only happens for this small space of time, rest of the day it's perfectly fine. Why would they throttle me for an hour?
I would love to ditch this ISP but if I recall correctly my mother entered a contract with them for a discount on Sky+ which isn't running out any time soon.
Any ideas what this could be?
The lag is particularly bad on World of Warcraft. The game is literally unplayable. Others, like Bad Company 2 just get choppy but I still stay connected.
Answer:
Well, the first thing to bear in mind is that the bandwidth on ADSL broadband is usually shared with up to 19 other connections. This is called a contended ADSL service.
The other thing to bear in mind is that the speed that you see on your network tab is different from your broadband with Sky. The speed you see here is a measure of your wireless speed between your computer and your wireless router.
The last thing to bear in mind is that the servers that host your chosen game might just be busy. Not that I'm a gamer, but I reckon that WoW is hosted on massive servers with massive connectivity to the Internet, so this might not be such a significant point.
But looking at what you've said, and between 6pm and 7pm is perhaps the busiest time to use the Internet for you and the other users contending on your Broadband. If a significant number of the other 19 people are busy downloading, watching movies (via Sky's broadband service) then you might see a significant drop in usability on WoW. You may even have others on your shared broadband also playing WoW.
What can you do? Not a lot, it would seem apart from:
1. Avoid playing between 6-7PM.
2. Try to get a better connection between your computer and your wireless. If yours is a laptop try moving closer to the router to see if that, and your experience of WoW improves during that 6-7PM period.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
