Your Options For Chicago Film Schools

With regards to film production, Chicago has a longstanding status as situated beneath the flourishing entertainment scenes of Los Angeles and New York City. The Weather Man, Batman Begins, Public Enemies and Shall We Dance are just among the most recent films shot in this Windy City.

Illinois Institute of the Arts is a film school in Chicago that presents high quality education utilizing state-of-the-art establishments. Many students find going to film school in a town just like Chicago to be preferable to attending a school NYU's Tisch School of the Arts or USC's cinema program. What makes learning film in a second tier town more beneficial is the fact that you get good access to the business and get top quality education without being put through Hollywood buzz.

In addition to the Art Institute there are excellent film programs to be found at the Tribeca Media Arts Academy, Depaul University and at the University of Chicago itself. University of Chicago and Depaul both offer accredited degree programs in film, along with the Art Institute. The Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy has an Associate's degree program that could be completed in two years. Many students find this more suitable to getting a four-year degree in that they are able to learn what they need to be competitive for entry-level film work opportunities and never having to spend 4 years in college.

Similar to the Tribeca Flashpoint Academy among Chicago film schools is the Film Connection, which presents mentor-apprenticeship programs. These programs are more cost-effective than four-year colleges and take a shorter period to accomplish than even an Associates degree. Students who take part in mentorship programs learn the business and craft of film production first hand by working in a real production environment side-by-side with actual working film professionals.

Mentorships are a great way for students to learn everything about film productions. Many students even elect to complete a mentor-apprentice program as a supplement to a four-year degree from a Chicago area film school. Because in a mentor-apprentice program students not just learn critical facets of the filmmaking process, they make the connections and contacts that prove invaluable when it comes to in fact looking for a job in the movie business.

So should you be considering attending one of the Chicago film schools, take a look at your various options and take into consideration what exactly is worth investing your time and cash in. What breakdown voltage should I consider for using capacitors in a 12KV-AC circuit?

using a 12000 Volt AC power supply (low current) and having plenty of 103J-2KV polyester film capacitors. and i want to know how many caps should i use in series. (capacitance doesn't matter).
as u know the peak voltage is 12000*sqrt(2) = 17 KV but what is the safe breakdown voltage for cap?
*it's a quite simple circuit with a spark gap. actually it's a part of a scientific experiment in my lab.


Answer:

I'd go peak voltage plus 50%. so about 25kv, so use say 13 in series. The reason is HV caps tend to be expensive so you want to make sure you dont blow them. But it also depends on the application, what is the application? If the cap values arent equal (they wont be becuase there is obviously some finite tolerance), the voltage wont divide evenly along the seriesed caps. with 13 in series, you should be well within the safe zone. If you use less in series, be aware that the voltage wont divide evenly along the series chain. In that case you can use large value resistive divider (say 10 meg across each cap). But then also remember the voltage across each cap will only be within the tolerance of the resistors then! So it still may not divide evenly! This is another reason to have quite a large safety margin in this case...
