ECG and EKG electrodes by hiru
ECG and EKG are the two different names for the same thing. ECG is the electrocardiogram. In this process, electrical activity of crucial and vital internal parts of body like heart is recorded for a specific period of time by a device on the EKG or ECG paper.ECG has become an important diagnostic tool which measures the particulars of heart in wide spectrum.
In technical language you can say that EKG device detects and amplifies the low electrical amplitude signals in the skin when the heart beats. And study of these electrical signals in a patient is very important if that person is suffering from heart disease. ECG or EKG can prove to be lifesaving machines for a heart patient.
In ECG process, some electrodes are attached to the outer skin on chest, and these electrodes are attached to a device which records electrical impulse caused by the beating of heart for a specific period of time. ECG machine consists of few major accessories, like EKG paper, ECG electrodes, mounts, leads and the clips.
Electrodes are vital parts of ECG machine like the ECG paper. Electrodes play a fundamental role, the sensors attached to them sense the electrical impulses produced by a heartbeat in appropriate time period. There are few electrodes pairs which are present in ECG machine.
The whole process of ECG is accomplished with help of 10 or 12 electrodes which are generally attached to arm, legs and chest. Electrodes can sense the electrical impulse of the pulse rate in the body. Electrodes which are attached to skin are innocuous in nature and ideal for use because they do not affect the skin.
The segments produced in the layout of ECG graph paper are short. If the number of leads used will be more, then the segments will be smaller. 10 electrodes are required for 12 lead ECG machine. And electrode comprises of a conducting gel that helps it to sense electrical impulse signal better. Conducting gel is rooted in the middle of a self-sticky pad on which cables slip.
As the name suggests, electrodes are conductors which allow the electricity to pass through them, but two electrodes can have a difference in the charge of electric current. There exists many types of ECG electrodes; these types are based on the type of requirement of the electrodes. There can be needle electrodes, reusable electrodes, active and passive electrodes and disposable electrodes.
The disposal types of ECD electrodes are also called as ECG tabs electrodes. And these disposal tabs electrodes are used in regular ECG test or routine tests. These tabs are attached to the clips or connecting terminal of lead and reusable electrodes are reused, as their name suggests. But, if once they are used, then they should be properly cleaned and washed.
World’s leading manufacturers of ECG electrodes are Medico Lead Lok, Bio Detek, Medico Electrodes International and the leading manufacturer of disposal type ECG electrodes is China. As these electrodes play a major role in ECG machine so they should be of a standard quality and material

Frequently Asked Questions...
Scope probes: 10/1 vs 1/1?
Are 10/1 scope probes usually active probes?
Aside from the obvious 10x amplification, what other differences might I see between 10x scope probes and using a scope's input with wires tied directly to the BNCs?
I am guessing there will be differences at high frequencies since there is no capacitor in this case. Also I'm thinking maybe issues since there is no 50 ohm resistance?
Any details would be great.
Thanks.
Answer:
10/1 probes don't amplify, they attenuate 10 times. The attenuation is done resistively, and so they have a higher impedance. This means that they won't load the circuit under test as much as 1/1 probes. As far as capacitance is concerned, the 10/1 probes have adjustable capacitors that can be used to compensate for capacitance introduced by the probe itself.
