The distance between C(-3,7) and D(-p,-5) is 13 units.
I don't get the units part.what is it supposed to mean?

Distance between the points C(-3,7) and D(-p, -5) is
sqr{(p - 3)^2 + (5 + 7)^2} = 13
squaring on both sides
=> (p - 3)^2 + (12)^2 = 169
=> p^2 - 6p + 9 = 169 - 144
=> p^2 - 6p - 16 = 0
=> p^2 - 8p + 2p - 16 = 0
=> (p - 8)(p + 2) = 0
=> p = 8 , -2
Units are nothing to bother about.They are just the units of distance.They may be cm., meters,km.,foot,etc,.
