Frequently Asked Questions...
How do I repair a stripped machine screw hole in my laptop's chasse?
I was swapping around my laptop's dual hard drives almost a year ago. When placing the cover back on over the hard drive enclosure, I mixed the screws up and accidentally stripped out one of the screw holes. The screw that's supposed to go there is permanently affixed to the cover, so only one screw holds it in, and the other one dangles there and rattles all the time - very annoying and distracting.
I still need to be able to get to the hard drive compartment so I'd like to stay away from super glue.
Any suggestions on what I can do to repair this stripped screw hole and actually fasten it as it should be?
Answer:
Well, I know in automotive repair, there are sleeves with internal threads than can be jammed into stripped bolt holes.
I doubt such things exist for the tiny screws on laptop cases. You might be SOL.
How about visiting a hardware store for a larger screw? As long as you can get one that's the same length, only slightly bigger, you might be able to get it in there. But this may not work or even be feasible.
