Frequently Asked Questions...
What happens if I test an outlet which is not GFCI protected, by tripping it with a GFCI tester?
I have a power outlet outside a house which I don't know if it is on a GFCI protected circuit. Can I test it using a Gardner Bender GFI-3501 receptacle tester? What will happen if I press the GFCI test button on the tester and the outlet is actually NOT on a GFCI protected circuit?
Answer:
If the outlet is on the load side of a GFI receptacle it should trip the receptacle. If it is on a GFCI breaker it should trip the breaker. If it is on a regular circuit breaker then nothing will happen. The small imbalance the tester puts on the circuit is not enough to trip a regular breaker.
